EU Policy
EU policy is becoming more and more important for the European member states as they have to embed EU policy in their national law. One of the core tasks of the International Affairs Department of the German Biogas Association is the monitoring of proposed European legislation. By participating in EU consultations and sharing information along with cooperating with other renewable energy and waste associations, attempts are being made to influence framework conditions for biogas with respect to a sustainable expansion of biogas and digestate applications within the member states. For this, we cooperate with German renewable energy associations like the German Renewable Energy Federation (BEE) and the Federal Association for Bioenergy (BBE) as well as with European renewable energy associations, e.g. the European Biogas Association (EBA) and the European Renewable Energy Federation (EREF), also with Waste Associations like the European Compost Network (ECN) and the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA). Our department is active in questions on sustainability and greenhouse gas calculations, biomethane as fuel and biogas applications in the heat and power sector as well as in questions on waste digestion, digestate application and veterinarian requirements.
